Annual eye examinations for patients diagnosed with diabetes, along with all Saskatchewan children under the age of 18, are covered by Saskatchewan Health.

An annual eye exam is covered for:

  • All individuals under 18 years of age
  • All individuals who have a confirmed diagnosis of type I or type II diabetes

Urgent appointments are covered anytime for:

  • Ocular emergencies e.g. injury to eyes, foreign body in eye, eye infection, etc., including necessary follow-ups.

Saskatchewan Health Services Card

You must present a valid Saskatchewan Health Services Card to be eligible.

Eyewear and contact lenses are not a benefit of the Saskatchewan provincial health program, but you may be covered by private insurance, student insurance, or other federal or provincial social services programs such as supplementary health or seniors income plan.
