Disaster Relief
On May 1, 2016, a wildfire began southwest of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. On May 3, it swept through the community, destroying approximately 2,400 homes and buildings and forcing the largest wildfire evacuation in Albertan history.
The University of Calgary hosted in excess of 5,000 Fort McMurray residents. Campus Vision stepped up to provide no-charge eye exams and replacement vision correction for those who left their vision correction behind or were experiencing eye health concerns.
In partnership with Hoya Vision Canada, we responded immediately by providing over 65 eye exams and 50 pairs of prescription glasses at no charge to Fort McMurray evacuees.
